About the society
The Society for Hospital Expansion in Central Alberta (SHECA) is a non-partisan, non-profit organization incorporated in 2017 with a mission to solve the capacity problem in the Red Deer Regional Hospital by pursuing government’s commitment to a fully-funded hospital expansion.
It was started by physicians who were inspired by the shelved plans to expand the Red Deer Regional Hospital over the past two decades, the Society came together when the RDRH Centre was dropped off from the provincial infrastructure priority list in late 2016 with little explanation from either Alberta Health Services or the government.
SHECA strives to include a variety of community members who are passionate about the development of health care infrastructure and programs in Central Alberta and will educate and advocate for the fair and transparent allocation of tax dollars directed toward health care infrastructure and programs, and the delivery of health care close to home – safely and reasonably.
